EPA Workers Receive Emails Warning their Employment could Be Terminated
More than 1,100 employees at the Environmental Protection Agency received today that they were deemed to be on probationary status and warning they could be fired right away, according to an e-mail obtained by CNN.
Probationary staff members getting the email have been working at the company for less than a year. The e-mails began to go out late on Wednesday afternoon, according to an EPA union official.
The exact same message will be sent out to other agency workforces, a White House authorities said. Across the US government, the current data shows there are more than 220,000 workers on probation.
“As a probationary/trial duration employee, the firm can instantly terminate you pursuant to 5 CFR § 315.804,” the EPA e-mail to probationary staff members checks out. “The procedure for probationary elimination is that you receive a notice of termination, and your employment is ended instantly.”
“Each staff member’s status will be determined separately,” the e-mail includes.
The e-mail also define an appeals process workers can require to see if they are eligible for extra defense.
